Jubilee 2025

In the Catholic Church, a Jubilee, also known as a Holy Year, is a special year of forgiveness, reconciliation, and spiritual renewal. It is a time for Catholics to focus on their relationship with God, one another, and creation.

For this Jubilee, some of our young adults will be making a pilgrimage to Rome in July. Going to Rome isn't the only way to participate though. There are plenty of ways for everyone to work on building their relationship with God during this year of hope.

Jubilee 2025

"For all of us, may the Jubilee be an opportunity to be renewed in hope."

--Pope Francis

Jubilee 101

What is the Jubilee?

“Jubilee” has origins in the Book of Leviticus and is intended to be marked as a time to re-establish a proper relationship with God, with one another, and with all of creation. The Jubilee is a holy year of celebration and renewal, which is often celebrated by receiving the sacraments, making pilgrimages, and performing acts of mercy. Pope Francis has designated the 2025 Holy Year as a time to renew ourselves as "Pilgrims of Hope".

Why do we participate in a pilgrimage?

A pilgrimage is a journey to a holy site to honor God and deepen one's faith. The jubilee call for us to set out on a journey and to cross boundaries. By participating in a pilgrimage this year we are granted an indulgence which is a concrete manifestation of God's mercy. Everyone is invited to particpate in a pilgrimage whether it is globally or locally.

What is an Indulgence?

The Jubilee Indulgence is a concrete manifestation of God's mercy, which goes beyond and transforms the boundaries of human justice. The Jubilee indulgence allows us to free our hearts from the weight of sin because the reparation due for our sins is given freely and abundantly. Those who cannot make the Jubilee pilgrimage due to illness or other circumstances are nonetheless invited to take part in the spiritual movement that accompanies the Jubilee year, offering up the sufferings of their daily lives, and participating in the Eucharistic celebration.
