The St. Paul Newman Center’s Peace and Social Justice Ministry was formed in 2016. Our mission is to provide educational awareness and activities and actions that will bring about positive change for the people most in need. The words of Jesus and Pope Francis dictate that we need to work together towards peace and social justice. We need to build bridges that will overcome the walls of exclusion, indifference, prejudice, and intolerance. (www.thinkingfaith.org)

CEAC

The Community Engagement and Action Committee (CEAC) is a vital expression of our Peace and Social Justice Ministry, which seeks "to provide educational awareness and activities and actions that will bring about positive change for the people most in need." Through CEAC, every parishioner is invited to participate in meaningful acts of service, advocacy, and education that respond to the needs of our broader community.

In this spirit, CEAC continues to explore and support areas of ministry that reflect our call to love our neighbor and care for the world entrusted to us. Among these are efforts grounded in Restorative Justice, which promote healing and reconciliation in the face of harm, and Creation Care, which recognizes our shared responsibility to safeguard God’s creation and ensure a just and sustainable world for all, especially the most vulnerable.

By embracing these expressions of justice and compassion, CEAC affirms its role as a space where faith is put into action—where parishioners can respond to the issues that touch their hearts and be part of efforts that build peace, restore dignity, and foster hope. These commitments align closely with our ministry’s mission and offer rich opportunities for deeper community engagement and transformative service.

If there are issues that speak to your heart, CEAC welcomes you. We offer a space to learn, share, and act together in faith. Your voice, passion, and presence can help shape our efforts and bring about meaningful change. Join us in building a more just and compassionate world, starting right here in our parish community.

Central Valley Industrial Area Foundation (Let Us Dream)

As an active member of Central Valley IAF, the Newman IAF focuses on developing community leaders to create change within our own local Newman community.

Community Garden

The Community Garden continues our parish's commitment to addressing social justice and poverty issues in our community. The goal is to outreach to those less fortunate by supplementing their meals with fruits and vegetables grown by volunteers in the garden and enriching their lives and the lives of our parishioners who interact with them.

Creation Care Team

Creation Care teams enable committed Catholics to lead the charge to solve climate change—together. We achieve more together, and united action is at the heart of this program.

Food Recovery

Food Recovery was made to respond to the teachings of Christ and take his transformative words and put them into action by providing fellowship and nutritionary benefits on an ongoing basis to the needy residents of our community.  Every week volunteers make meals on Thursdays that they take out into the community  and provide a dinner on Fridays at the Newman Center.

"For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me" Matthew 25: 35-36

Schedule

Every Friday at 5:30PM in the Cafeteria
