Donations for the Rectory Renovations
We are excited to announce that the home owned by St Paul Catholic Newman Center will soon be transitioned back into our rectory. This transition will provide our Claretian missionary team with a larger, more comfortable living space better suited to support 2 full-time members of our clergy. Moving into a larger space will also afford us the opportunity to host visiting priests onsite, as needed to help support our university parish.
In order to make this transition possible, the new rectory will require significant upgrades and renovations to bring it up to date. We have opened an irrevocable charitable trust for the purposes of our needed rectory renovations. Donations to our irrevocable trust should be made by check payable to "Roman Catholic Charitable Trust" and must be accompanied by our St Paul Catholic Newman Center Capital Improvement Project Donation Form. We anticipate needing to raise approximately $50,000 and greatly appreciate your donations and generosity toward this capital improvement project. Our goal is to bring this transition to fruition this summer.
If you are unable to donate to the trust at this time, we ask that you please consider a future pledge toward this goal. For any questions or feedback, please contact our Parish Life Coordinator, Katie Fleener, Ph.D., at [email protected].
Renovations FAQs
Why are we making this change to the rectory?
The Claretian Missionaries are excited to provide us with 2 full-time clergy to support the needs of our very active university parish. This rectory transition will help us better support 2 full-time priests in residence while also allowing for additional space to support a visiting priest, when needed.
Where will the new rectory be located?
The new rectory will be located in the neighborhood within walking distance to the Newman Center.
How do Fr. Rubi & Deacon David feel about moving?
Both are very happy! The new rectory will provide more space inside and outside and will allow them to better support our university parish in a variety of ways.
How will the renovation funds be spent?
The initial funding will allow for new flooring, paint, a new stove, plumbing/water leak repairs, and an upgraded shower in the primary bath.
What if we don't raise enough funds?
Our goal is to update flooring, paint, the kitchen stove, primary bathroom shower, and to repair some plumbing/water leaks and subsequent damage. If we do not raise sufficient funds for all of these items, we will adjust and reduce this goal. We can only support repairs and renovations through funding deposited to our newly established irrevocable trust.
What if we raise more funds than originally requested?
If we raise additional funds beyond what are needed for the initial renovations, the funds will be retained in the trust and will be used for future rectory improvements.
Will the new rectory be located where Sr. Kathleen currently resides? Where is Sr. Kathleen going?
The home currently occupied by Sr. Kathleen will be transitioned into our new rectory. Sr. Kathleen is excited to move to the university parish apartment where Fr. Rubi & Deacon David currently reside. This lovely apartment will enable Sr. Kathleen to remain close to the Newman Center.
What is happening with the roof?
Two planned phases of roof repairs have been completed. The final phase is pending and will take place at a future date. Leading into spring we completed substantial repairs that we anticipate will prevent leaks through next winter.
What will happen after Deacon David is ordained to the priesthood?
After Deacon David is ordained and becomes Father David, he will continue to serve our Newman community as a priest and Director of Religious Education for the next 3 years.
